5-Minute Chinese Classics

The “5-Minute Chinese Classics” was officially launched on November 1, 2021. All Yew Chung and Yew Wah students, through a wide range of learning activities, will be able to learn some Chinese classic quotations each day. Through appreciating, reciting, absorbing and internalising these classic quotations, students will learn about the essence of Chinese culture, thereby develop their moral standards and character.

Among a vast array of Chinese Classics, CPDD colleagues have selected some meaningful quotations that can aptly respond to the needs of the times from various Chinese classic texts for teaching young children, such as the Three-Character Classic, Standards for Students and Aphorisms from the Ancient Chinese, as well as from the philosophical teachings of Confucius, Mencius and other schools of thought. These quotations are classified into 6 main categories, namely Self Cultivation, Love and Charity, To Learn, Relationships, Affection and Aspirations for the Homeland, and Life Wisdom.

At this stage, close to 400 quotations have been uploaded to the Learning Portal while CPDD’s ultimate goal is to provide a total number of 1,000. All quotations will be translated into English so that Chinese and Western teachers can collaborate with each other, helping students to comprehend and ponder the quotations from multiple perspectives, while at the same time promoting intercultural communication and the spreading of culture.
