Humanities

The YCYW Humanities Curriculum aims to cultivate responsible, compassionate, and critical thinkers who are deeply engaged with the world around them. Our goal is to equip students with the skills to solve problems and communicate ideas about significant local and global issues.

Humanities plays a vital role in fostering students' curiosity about China and the broader world, empowering them to become informed and responsible decision-makers who drive positive change locally, nationally, and globally. Through inquiry-based learning, students integrate knowledge of Eastern and Western values and traditions, aligning with disciplines such as Science and Technology, Culture and Arts, and Love and Charity. This holistic approach ensures that students develop into “systems thinkers,” cultivating a profound sense of humility about what they know and do not know, along with a genuine curiosity and openness to learning.

Furthermore, Humanities encourages collaboration, open-mindedness, and an inquiring mindset. Students develop the inquiry skills and knowledge necessary to face life's challenges and contribute to the wellbeing and sustainability of the environment, economy, and society.

The Humanities program includes four subjects: Social Studies for Yew Chung, Chinese Studies for both Yew Chung and Yew Wah, and Geography and History for Yew Wah.

Yew Chung Social Studies: Applied to Primary and Lower Secondary, this subject aims to develop students as systems thinkers and foster a sense of interconnectedness. It encompasses Global Citizenship education and integrates Service-Learning, promoting cultural sensitivity, moral compassion, and wisdom.

YC Chinese Studies: Applied to Primary and Lower Secondary, and YW Chinese Studies, incorporated into the subject of Ethics and the Rule of Law in Primary, focus on a deep and comprehensive understanding of China. Through collaboration, students are inspired to explore matters related to China, consider issues from multiple perspectives, and employ various methods to study the origins and formation of different cultural phenomena.

YW Geography and History: Applied to Lower Secondary, these subjects emphasize core competencies in line with the revised China National Curricula. In History, core competencies include historical materialism, time-space concepts, historical evidence analysis, historical interpretations, and aspirations towards the homeland. In Geography, core competencies focus on the vision of human-earth harmony, comprehensive thinking, regional cognition, and geographical competence.

By engaging with these subjects, students will develop into informed, critical, and compassionate individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.
