Character Development

We believe wellness to exist when a child's developmental needs are consistently met in the following areas: physical health and safety, emotional health and safety, social competencies, mental health and safety, intercultural and global citizenship, spiritual health, and safety, learning and character development.

The 'Life Skills and Wellness Curriculum' is the name of the programme in the school which develops the life skills and wellness of students. This programme aims to equip and enable students to flourish in all areas of their lives by:

  • Developing their knowledge, understanding and skill sets regarding wellness in a comprehensive and integrated manner.

  • Implicitly/explicitly teaching life skills using evidence-informed practices related to their rights, personal safety, comprehensive sexuality education, body awareness, positive relationships, resilience, and digital safety.

  • Involving all students to address the healthy development of relationships between individuals and the group and foster a sense of connectedness.

  • Providing opportunities for authentic decision-making and problem-solving over matters that affect them.

  • Collaborating with students to develop strategies to enhance wellness, promote safety and counter violence, bullying and abuse in all online and physical spaces.

  • Empowering students to be aware of community wellness and strive to provide an adequate environment for enabling wellness for his/her immediate social environment and the larger community.

We further believe that developing character is the responsibility of all members of our school communities. The integration of the YCYW 12 Virtues in our life skills and wellness curriculum aims to support students to learn common attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that are important to becoming a responsible, respectful, caring and internally motivated child or young person.
